Our Work
Lifehouse School & Orpanage for the Deaf was founded in 2004 as an officially registered non-profit, charity in Obala, Cameroon by Andre Christophe Bikund.
The purpose of LifeHouse is to provide a loving family atmosphere in which the deaf are educated and given oppurtunity to become productive members of society through vocational training.
For most of the residents this is the first time in their lives they can communicate and the only time they have been valued as a person... that is what makes our home a LifeHouse..it is a house filled with LIFE!
In 2011, Friends of the Deaf purchased land in Obala, Cameroon for Lifehouse Deaf School and Orphanage. In 2012, the first buildings are under construction. Our goal is to build a facility large enough to take in all the deaf in our area as well as expand our program to include the blind.
Because so many of the deaf are not educated even in basic sign language, every deaf child we bring to Lifehouse is a person whose life will be forever changed.
Friends of the Deaf International has partnered with LifeHouse to help change the destinies of the deaf in Cameroon. Our partnership includes financial accountability, fundraising, mission trips to LifeHouse, helping with supplies and to network the deaf community in Cameroon with those who have a heart for the deaf in different parts of the world.
